Line-up

  • Mike Lynch - vocals/hamronica
  • Ady Edelston - lead
  • Dave Webb - drums
  • John Brennan - bass/vocals
  • Alex Kirby - sax
  • Pete Kenny - rhythm/lead prior to Alex joining

The bands original line up was:

  • Mike Lynch - vocals/harmonica
  • Ady Edelston - lead guitar
  • John Brennan - bass guitar
  • Dave Webb - drums
  • Pete Kenny - rhythm and lead guitars

This line up existed for around the first year of the bands formation - then I think Pete Kenny left the group to marry.

The band continued for a short time as a four piece until we met up with Alex Kirby. A great sax player, we felt we had to have him in the band.

After a couple of rehearsals Alex fitted right in and with this line up the band soon started to expand its repertoire and its quality of gigs.

We then felt the need for a manager, this post was taken by one 'Paul St Pierre', who soon raised the bands profile and after a gig for Prince Nicholas Galitzine at a large manor house somewhere in the Cheshire countryside the band was inundated with requests for bookings due to the fact that there were some heavyweight music people at that event.

Playing regular slots at the Twisted Wheel, Oasis and Bolton's Beachcomber club, the group had a large following in Manchester and Bolton.

A demo session for Decca records created great interest but the label were slow to move and by the time Mike Lynch was contacted by the label, the Chapters no longer existed. The group played a hard driving R&B style of music including a good slice of the Coasters stuff which suited Alex's sax playing.

We also introduced some T Bone Walker and John Lee Hooker numbers which showed off Ady Edelston's unique guitar style to great effect.

Add to this some early original songs and the Chapters were the whole package. Eventually, dissagreement with management I think caused the break up, but I feel that had Decca acted sooner The Chapters would have done the business.

Alex Kirby and Dave Webb later joined the St Louis Union, John Brennan went to Life 'n' Soul (still gigging with The Ivy League) and Mike Lynch to Money.
