The Curly Tops

The Curly Tops were a Manchester based girl harmony trio between 1969 - 1971 who were managed by Brian Durkin from Hammat International in Bexley Square.

The trio consisted of sisters Brenda and Linda Lee from Barrow in Furness and Irene Green from Merseyside. Irene is better known as the recording star from the mid 1960's Tiffany.

Tiffany was the former lead vocalist with popular Liverpool bands The Dimensions and The Thoughts. She recorde with both bands and also as a solo artist.

The Lee sisters were singing around the north west clubs from an early age and when Linda left school in 1967 the girls turned professional and relocated to Manchester. the girls first concert on arriving in the city was to support Tom Jones.

The Curly Tops spent two busy years together were they toured the UK and Europe. The girls were set up with their own backing band from Manchester based session musicians. It would be good to know if anyone could name the backing band guitists on the stage photo attached.

The drummer with The Curly Tops who is not featured was a young Gilsson Lavis later of Squeeze and currently with The Jools Holland Orchestra.
