Bought a new Gibson Les Paul Artisan Custom with case from them for £500, Ann and Graham were big pals of the 2 Canadian guys I was working with at the time, Percy and Roy's 'The Garden Odesey' - 'The sounds of tomorrow today',,,, yeah sure, one of their favorite 'numbers' was Bridget The Midget, makes me cringe to think about it, the money was good though,,,,,,,,
I bought a Gibson SG Special there around 1970 for £100. The frets were worn the neck was bent in the middle and one of the pickups was cracked, it had suffered a hard life..it must be worth a fortune now because they call it a ' relic ' now ! Part exed it on a new Gibson ES 175D at the Rhythm House Stockport for £100 in 1972/73.
What about Big Dek? He worked in the repairs department. What a great guy, if only for the fact that his repairs were not only reliable but also well priced. I have reason to believe that that just like so many good people from that era, he is no longer with us. RIP Big Dek.
Bought my first groups gear from Graham and Ann what a great couple always ready to give you a good deal. Went in the shop many a sat morning and Ann would be sat at the counter hatch where you went through and down the stairs into a small set of cellar rooms which you could try out various instruments and amps also there was a small repair area that you could get your gear fixed while you waited .her son tony only a boy at the time was on hand to assist MUST HAVE SPENT A SMALL FORTUNE WITH THEM OVER THE YEARS .Eventually they expanded the shop to next door .alas both of them retired and i heard the sad news that graham had passed away .there have been rumours that Ann and Tony here son were thinking of starting A1 up again and giving customers that personal involvement, lets wait and see what happens HAPPY DAYS.
