Tony Saville's

The shop was located round the corner from Oxford Street facing the side of the Midland Hotel - a later shop opened in the mid 70s. Terry Smith, an excellent electronics engineer previously with Barratt's, went to work for Tony.

I bought an AC30 Top and a 2X12 cab from there. Tony always did a great deal and would drag you into the shop to try some instrument he just bought in.

Sadly he was killed in a Go-carting accident and although Tony's wife tried to keep things going they had to close about a year later.

I remember  buying an Ampeg valve guitar  combo there early seventies. He was very  helpful  showing  me some guitar licks,I wasn't  a great  player. As I  recall, his wife was always there and a pretty woman, us young guys noticed that !
I seem to remember that he had a Brother? I  am not sure. I was shocked when he was killed, he seemed a top bloke.

I was a great friend of Tony as he lived in Ashton about 100 yards from me. I knew his wife Sue and daughter Mandy. A great guitarist who taught me a lot, and a crazy driver. He was killed in 1977 in a go kart accident the day after me & my Swedish girlfriend had had dinner with them. Very sad.

Bought a CSL Les Paul from Tony.Graet guitar still have it.Cost £120 in 1974.Alvin Stardust walked in with his band and was in full leather cat suit.He was playing in town that night.
