Barbara Law

Barbara Law (b. Barbara Mary Lawless, Saturday, September 28, 1935, Warrington, Cheshire, England d. Tuesday, March 27, 2018, Warrington, Lancashire, England of cancer).

Law, who was one of three daughters, grew up in Howley, Warrington and started singing professionally at 14 in 1950.

At 17 in 1953 she passed an audition with The BBC and joined The Northern Dance Orchestra. She sang over 500 BBC broadcasts. In 1961 she was voted TV personality of the year.

On Friday, January 25, 1963 Barbara Law released her first single 'Au Revoir, Auf Wiederseh'n' and 'Bahia Bossa Nova' on Decca F 11577. It was produced by K.P.M and arranged by Ivor Raymonde (b. Ivor Pomerance, Friday, October 22, 1926, England d. Monday, June 4, 1990, Ewshot Village, Hampshire, England).

In 1965 she represented Great Britain for the BBC Nord Ring Song Festivals, which were broadcast in 25 European countries.

B LAW 1

Barbara did many shows for TV with Morcambe and Wise, Des O’Connor, Ken Dodd and and has worked some fantastic venues - from the London Palladium to the Lake Side and topped the bill at many, many more.

She has also appeared at the South and North piers in Blackpool and worked with many of the great bands.

She also was a regular for working various radio shows with the NDO.

The picture in the gallery was taken in my office at Talk of the North, Eccles and shows Barbara with Matt Munro, Tom Jones, Joe Pullen and Mike Newman. She is still a great friend of Tom Jones and flew over to Las Vegas to meet up with him. She has recently appeared on the Ken Dodd Show.
