Majestic Ballroom (Birkenhead)

The Majestic Ballroom was at 46 Conway Street, Birkenhead, Cheshire and opened in 1962.

The Majestic Ballroom opened on Monday, June 26, 1916 as The Birkenhead Picture House. In 1924 it was renamed Birkenhead Super Cinema. In March 1928 it was taken over by The General Theatre Corporation (GTC) and in May 1928 was taken over by The Gaumont British Theatre chain. On Saturday, September 29, 1956 The Birkenhead Super Cinema closed with the film 'Anything Goes.'

It was later converted into The Top Rank Luxury Ballroom in 1956 and later became The Majestic Ballroom. It was owned by Top Rank, Britain's largest entertainment organisation at the time.

On Thursday, June 28, 1962 The Beatles made their first of 17 appearances at this famous ballroom. This was the first time the group played for Top Rank.
On Wednesday, April 10, 1963 The Beatles played the last of their 17 gigs here.

The Majestic Ballroom closed in 1969.
