Bamboo Club (Bolton)

It was on a street off Upper Bridge Street just along from the Palais de Danse. It was up a flight of stairs above a former shop I think. We used to go on Fridays and Saturdays when they played excellent Stax and Soul music. It was small but the dance floor was very good. At one end was a small bar serving soft drinks only.

This was in the late 1960's. Some people would turn up on Saturdays with overnight bags to warm up before Wigan Casino I think.

I played there( double bass) in the jack Thompson trio ( jazz trio) in 1965 ish. I was 16 and at Hayward grammar at the time. Jack Thompson was a music teacher at school, our drummer always a pupil  ( Dave) at the same school)

I   think I remember playing there in 1965 in a band called Green Onions who became OUTRAGE.I also remember playing Wrighton Stadium not far from there where Kent Walton used to present Wrestling on ITV. Don't think it WAS a Stadium though, more like a hall.
