Aye, those were the days! Brian Ring later joined on lead guitar and we were actually filmed in Skways coffee bar and supposed to appear in some tv pop show, but it didn't happen. The group went to Holland in February 1965 with Pete Baldwin on guitar and John Rose on alto sax. Mike Delaney from the Scorpions was on drums. The Scorpions had had a big hit with a rehash of 'Hello Josephine' in a heavy hairy rock line up and we went down like the proverbial lead balloon. We were too squeaky clean and short of hair.
I was signed up in June 1965 by a club owner to work in a trio in his club, 'The Top Ten Club' in Torremolinos. We played two summer seasons there and in winter in Tolouse. We composed and recorded the music for an American producer's film, 'Maybe You Don't Like it.' And nobody did. On my own, I was hired in Madrid as a bassist playing and recording with a number of Spanish pop stars, backing them on their tours, including CHile, Costa Rica and Colombia.
I wish I could have seen Frankie again before he died of a cardiac problem.
I have published 2 books about those eventful days: 'Olives Garlic and a Bass Guitar' and 'I Wanted to be a Bus Driver' - both books are available at Amazon.
